The MCA Broker's Saturday Reset: 7 Things to Check Before You Submit a Deal

Saturday is a good time to step back from the daily grind and look at your pipeline.

Not just how many deals you have.

But how many of those deals are actually ready to be submitted.

One of the biggest mistakes in MCA is treating every merchant file the same:

Get statements → find a funder → send it.

That approach creates unnecessary submissions, wasted time, avoidable declines, and frustrated brokers.

Before you send your next deal, take a few minutes to answer these seven questions.

1. What is the merchant's actual revenue?

Don't rely exclusively on the merchant's stated monthly revenue.

Look at the bank statements.

You want to understand:

  • Average monthly deposits
  • Revenue consistency
  • Deposit trends
  • Large or unusual deposits
  • Declining revenue
  • Revenue concentration
  • Actual business activity

A merchant who says they do $150,000 per month but has materially different bank activity deserves a closer look before submission.

The bank statements tell the story.

2. How healthy is the cash flow?

Revenue is only part of the picture.

Two merchants can generate the same monthly revenue and have completely different cash-flow profiles.

Look for:

  • Ending balances
  • Negative days
  • Balance volatility
  • Cash-flow trends
  • Large withdrawals
  • Payment obligations
  • Cash-flow pressure

A strong revenue number doesn't automatically mean the deal is strong.

The question is:

How much usable cash flow is actually left after the merchant's obligations?

3. How many NSFs are there?

NSFs are easy to overlook when you're moving quickly.

They're also one of the clearest indicators that the merchant's banking activity deserves additional attention.

Don't just count them.

Look at:

Frequency + timing + trend.

A couple of isolated events can tell a different story from repeated NSFs throughout multiple months.

4. What existing positions are already on the books?

This is one of the most important questions before submitting an MCA deal.

Identify:

  • Existing advances
  • Remaining balances
  • Daily/weekly payments
  • Number of positions
  • Payoff amounts
  • Approximate payment burden

A $100,000 request can look completely different depending on whether the merchant has zero existing positions or several active obligations.

Know the stack before you submit.

5. Is the requested amount realistic?

This is where underwriting analysis becomes particularly useful.

Compare:

Requested Amount

vs.

Revenue

vs.

Cash Flow

vs.

Existing Obligations

vs.

Overall Deal Quality

The merchant may ask for $250,000.

That doesn't necessarily mean $250,000 is the amount the financial profile supports.

A more realistic submission amount can sometimes turn an unrealistic deal into a workable one.

6. Does the deal actually fit the funder's buy box?

This is where the funder list isn't the problem — matching is.

Before submitting, consider:

  • Industry
  • State
  • Monthly revenue
  • Time in business
  • Credit profile
  • Existing positions
  • Stacking
  • Requested amount
  • Banking quality
  • Product type

A funder offering $50K–$500K doesn't necessarily want every $150K deal.

"Can fund" and "wants this deal" are two different questions.

That's why understanding the funder's actual buy box matters.

7. What happens if your first submission gets declined?

This is the question most brokers don't ask early enough.

Instead of:

"Who can fund this?"

Think:

"Where does this deal belong?"

Your first submission should be based on the characteristics of the deal — not simply which funder you happen to know.

And if that submission doesn't work, you should already understand the next potential path.

That's the foundation of intelligent deal routing.

From Underwriting to Deal Intelligence

The future of MCA isn't simply about processing bank statements faster.

It's about turning raw financial information into actionable deal intelligence.

That's the direction we're building toward at FundingBrother.

The goal isn't to replace the broker or the underwriter.

It's to give them better information so they can make better decisions, faster.

Your Saturday Challenge

Take your next 3 deals and ask:

  • What's the real monthly revenue?
  • What's the cash-flow quality?
  • How many NSFs?
  • How many existing positions?
  • What's the payment burden?
  • Is the requested amount realistic?
  • Which funders actually fit the deal?

If you can't answer those questions quickly, the deal probably isn't ready to be submitted yet.

Analyze first. Submit second.

That's how you stop spray-and-pray submissions and start building a smarter funding process.
